Commitment to Patient
Care
Our goal is to develop
improved drug products
that have the potential
to be a more convenient,
patient-friendly
medicine that provides
an alternative to
current therapies
for treatment of
various acute and
chronic conditions.
The distinct advantage
to the patient and
the physician is
convenience, control,
and improved effectiveness.
The physician has
added assurance
that the patient
is receiving the
proper dose of medicine
with fewer concerns
about missed prescriptions
or non-compliance.
Vision
ORx is employing
advanced bio-enabling
drug delivery technologies
to develop new and
improved pharmaceutical
products. Our mission
is to develop therapies
that will improve
the quality of life
for patients with
acute and chronic
diseases and conditions.
Our vision for product
development is to
combine known drugs
with promising efficacy
with ORx’s
technology to create
value-added drug
products with lower
development risks
and quicker access
to the market.
ORx's strategy involves:
• development
proprietary pharmaceutical
products using an
approach that minimizes
risk and maximizes
speed to the market.
• enhancement
of bio-performance
and optimized delivery
of orally ingestible
pharmaceutical compounds.
• enabling
the oral absorption
of parenteral therapeutic
products.
• expansion
of technology
platforms
through co-developments
and internal
work.
History
ORx’s history
of advancing the
quality of patient
care through improved
drug delivery started
with the founding
of the Toronto Institute
of Pharmaceutical
Technology (TIPT®)
in 1992 by Dr. Alexander
MacGregor. His vision
was to develop safe
and effective therapeutic
systems that provide
improved delivery
of medicines at
controlled rates
to the patient at
the right site and
right time. While
recognizing that
development and
quality assurance
of modern pharmaceutical
medicines is predicated
by access to trained
and qualified professionals
who can sustain
and support the
industry in a pragmatic
way, Dr. MacGregor
dedicated his effort
to developing novel
postgraduate training
in pharmaceutical
sciences and technology.
He pioneered North
America’s
didactic education
and training in
pharmaceutical technology.
The impact of this
approach and the
founding of TIPT®
have had a significant
impact in the pharmaceutical
and allied industries.
In just over
15 years TIPT®
graduated
over 3,600
highly-skilled
pharmaceutical
scientists
and technologist
who have had
a profound
impact on
the growth
and development
of the pharmaceutical
and life-science
industries
in Toronto
and Canada-wide
through ready
access to
knowledge-based
human capital.
In further pursuit
of his vision, ORx
was founded by Dr.
MacGregor in 2002
as a specialty pharmaceutical
company with a primary
focus on developing
advanced technologies
for improving therapeutic
performance of otherwise
promising medicines
with impaired oral
bioavailability
and drug delivery
challenges.
Business Focus
ORx works primarily to improve therapeutic performance of established and promising drugs. ORx introduces product improvements to current drugs enabling product life extension options, and branding opportunities. The Company's products have the added benefit of patent protection from issued and pending ORx platform and product specific patents. In most cases, unlike a full new drug application (NDA) ORx product approvals require only limited clinical assessment resulting in inexpensive and expedient new product development and registration; for example via the 505(b)(2) regulatory option in the US.
